My Message

“Dedicated. Motivated. Committed. Those are the keywords that describe my career and my passion for helping our community. As a candidate not afraid to speak up and bring awareness to the struggles of our community, I will continue to advocate for those whose voices are often suppressed. As a single mother who has raised four children in Jackson County, I know how important county resources, housing, taxes, and household safety are. As a parent of a child with special needs, I know how important local health agencies are. Adequate funding for health care is a priority. Having lost my father earlier this year, a military veteran and retired postal worker, I learned firsthand the challenges our elderly residents experience just to receive basic care. I am committed to keeping our most vulnerable community safe, finding long-term solutions for their tax issues, and making sure Jackson County meets their needs for adequate housing. Keeping our community safe is always a top priority. Jackson County residents want to feel safe in their homes. Business owners shouldn’t be faced with the burden of break-ins consistently happening in our busiest entertainment districts. Supporting Combat and other anti-violence organizations is important, as well as working with those groups to make sure they have successful results. Continued funding is important, as is finding real solutions to reduce crime in Jackson County. As a lifetime democrat, my policies will always align with the working class. Creating opportunities for growth. Developing an open communication line between your elected leaders and the community they serve. And creating productive communication between the newly elected Executive, the board of Legislators, and the constituents of Jackson County.”

ABOUT ME

Putting My Experience to Work

Ms. Hernandez has a long history of community advocacy. She has spent over two decades serving as a volunteer for various organizations and boards. Some of which are:

  • Small Business Task Force of Kansas City

  • Neighborhood Tourist and Development Fund

  • Northeast Arts KC

  • Guadalupe Center Charter Schools

  • Sheffield Neighborhood Association

  • United Way Ambassador

  • Kansas City Public Schools

  • Holy Cross Catholic School

Early on in her career, Ms. Hernandez spent her years in the financial industry. From a bank teller, a personal banker, to a technical support agent for UMB Bank.

Her most recent role with the Kansas City Public Library puts her in direct contact with the public. From providing guidance on book recommendations for our avid readers, to supporting our community with necessary resources. Working with many of our houseless patrons, she listens to their stories and understands the need for change in Jackson County.

Hernandez is also a small business owner. Her experience in small business earned her a seat on the Small Business Task Force in Kansas City, appointed by Mayor Lucas. She started an art gallery in 2021 to support local, upcoming artists. She has been an art advocate for years. She spent several years as a volunteer at a local elementary school, from teaching Folklorical dance to sewing dresses for the students.

Recently, she spent 2025 in Jefferson City as a Legislative Assistant for representatives of Kansas City as well as St. Louis. Her time spent working at the State Capitol of Missouri allowed her to gain extensive knowledge of government affairs. She worked with constituents across the state, met with lobbyists and many organizations, as well as other State Representatives and Senators.

Her most important career (role) is being a mother of four amazing children. She raised her children in the Northeast neighborhood. Her children attended private, charter, and public schools. It is the love for her children that encouraged her to once serve as a volunteer basketball coach at Holy Cross Catholic School, a volunteer dance instructor at James Elementary, and to sit as a board member at Guadalupe Center Charter Schools.
